Best Summer Road Trips from Phoenix

(approx 3-min read)

The Great Road Trip of 2019

It’s July and summer is in full swing here in the Valley of the Sun! You can count on the next month being filled with lots of sunshine, swimming, ice cream … and of course, fun road trips! One of the best things about living in Phoenix is we are a short drive away from many amazing and quick weekend trips to escape the heat and enjoy some down time with the family.

Flagstaff (approx 2-hr drive)

Just a two-hour drive north on I-17 is a summertime paradise! While we have an exciting list of day trips within state lines, Flagstaff is worth mentioning twice! Enjoy Flagstaff’s cooler weather along with scenic hiking, biking, downtown shopping, amazing drinks, great food and so much more!

San Diego (approx 5-6hr drive)

Head six hours west on I-8 and find instant happiness at the beach! Check out historic Coronado Island, spend a day at the famous San Diego Zoo or explore Balboa Park… there are so many options! Whether you are looking for nightlife in the downtown San Diego Gaslamp District or just a relaxing time on the beach, San Diego has all you could want in a family vacation, and then some.

Santa Fe (approx 8-hr drive)

If you are looking for a bit of a longer family bonding experience head out east to Santa Fe! Less than an 8-hour drive, Santa Fe offers historic Pueblo-style architecture and a creative arts hotbed. Explore ancient Native American ruins filled with petroglyphs or a living history museum devoted to Spanish Colonial life. Bonus points if you find Walter White’s house!

Rocky Point (approx 4-5hr drive)

Grab those passports and head south of the border! After a quick four hour drive south of Phoenix, you’ll find white sand beaches, beautiful resorts and a pina colada with your name on it! Enjoy water-based activities like snorkeling, kayaking, jet skis and more during this weekend getaway!

What is on your summer road trip list this year. Let us know in the comments below and be sure to check back next week as we share all about our recent road trip to Sedona – including best places to stay, eat and things to do!
