Choosing the Right Real Estate Agent Matters
It’s more than just “something your parents did.” It’s more than “I’ll just go with the first person I find or they’re a family friend.” As a real estate agent, these are the words I hear most from my clients. The real estate agent/specialist that you choose to help you sell your home really does matter. It matters because it’s the largest investment most people will ever make in their lifetime, so why wouldn’t you want the most qualified, knowledgeable and experienced agents in the area helping you get the maximum amount for your investment?
Choosing the wrong real estate agent can affect how quickly your home sells, the number of interested buyers and most importantly, the final sales price you either pay or receive for your home.
Experience and Knowledge
One of the most significant aspects of your home buying or selling experience is knowledge of the industry. Finding an experienced agent with exceptional knowledge of your ideal neighborhood can make all the difference in your home buying experience. And, your real estate agent should know how to search, sell or buy a home based on the specific needs of your family. Not all homes are for every family, not all neighborhoods are for every family and not all real estate agents are for every family.
Trust
Whether trust comes easy to you or not, you need to be able to trust your agent with your family – because you are! Ask friends, family and neighbors for valuable referrals, look at online review sites, and most importantly interview several candidates. Just because they are a “friend of the family” doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best for you and your family. Everyone’s real estate needs are different. Find an agent that you feel confident will do the best job.
Making that Dream a Reality
Have you always wanted a home with a guesthouse? Looking for a multi-generational housing option? Use an agent to find that perfect dream home! Ask your prospective agent if they have helped other buyers find the home you are envisioning, or if the neighborhoods they represent offer those options.
At the end of the day, your agent matters. You should be able to trust them with this important decision, know that they have your best interest in mind and know that they are going above and beyond to get the best deal for you.
Not every real estate agent will be a good fit for you, not every home will be a fit for you either. Take time choosing your agent for one of life’s most important milestones!
